Getting to Island Lake
Directions
The paths runs the majority of the park, and can be accessed at nearly every turn off. To start from the beginning, go straight once you pay the nice ranger. Ahead will be several parking areas adjacent to the path.
From I-75
Take I-75 to I-696 and head West. I-696 turns into I-96 at the I-275 interchange (stay in the left lane). Continue on I-96 West for about 15 miles to the Kensington Road exit(exit 151). Exit onto Kensington Road heading South. Pass the light at Grand River and the park entrance is 1/4 mile on left. Once inside the park you can go straight to any of the parking lots. Heading straight you will come to a lake and parking lots with toilet facilities available. if you choose to turn right after the toll booth you can park in any of the first few parking lots and still get onto the paved bike path.
If you chose to go straight after the toll booth, you can continue straight on the path will take you to the Kensington/Island Lake connector (a pave bike path connecting the 2 parks). If you ride the bike path back towards the entrance you will ride through Island Lake State Park.
From US-23
Take US-23 to I-96 and head East for 3.3 miles to the Kensington Road exit (exit 151). Exit onto Kensington Road heading South, Pass the light at Grand River and the park entrance is 1/4 mile on left. Once inside the park you can go straight to any of the parking lots. If you chose to go straight after the toll booth, you can continue straight on the path will take you to the Kensington/Island Lake connector (a pave bike path connecting the 2 parks). If you ride the bike path back towards the entrance you will ride through Island Lake State Park.
